  2. What is a set? • The act of snapping the ball upward with two hands to set up a spike • The setter tries to place the ball near the net to assist a spiker in hitting the ball Back Next

General Setting Information • Volleyball setting is one of the most difficult skills to learn and takes a lot of practice to master • Setting requires a soft touch • The key is to keep the ball on your fingertips and to not ever let it touch your palms – this is called a “lift” • The ball should always remain in motion throughout the set and should never be stopped in your hands at any point • The goal is to take the ball into your hands and release it without spin to your hitter Back Next

Critical elements • Right foot slightly forward with weight evenly balanced • Knees bent, back straight • Hands above forehead, elbows bent, fingers are open and in the shape of a diamond • Make contact with fingertips, not palms • Use force from legs, torso, and arms to set ball • Extend arms fully over head Back Next
