  2. 3 • This is a how-to guide on the use of the Ballester-Guasp on-line report evaluator. • Its use is actually quite simple and is fairly intuitive as long as you understand the evaluation process. • Remember, a BGE is an evaluation of a report itself and not an evaluation of a UFO event or an Investigator • If you’re not familiar with the process, please refer to the MUFON Field Investigators Manual. • (4th Edition), Section XVIII Part 2 Page 214 • (5th Edition), Section II Step 8 Page 180

  3. 4 There are two ways to access the Ballester-Guasp evaluator.

  4. 5 Via the URL http://mufoncms.com/cgi-bin/bge/bge.pl

  5. 6 …or by clicking the BGE button at the top or bottom of your case edit page.

  7. 8 Either one takes you to the evaluator form input page.

  9. Information Quality Index: You can select more than one information acquisition method. However, no matter how many are selected, the overall index will not be greater than 1 or 100%. You must select at least one. 10

  10. 11 Reliability Index: You must make a selection in each section.

  11. 12 Strangeness Index: Select all that apply. You must select at least one.

  12. 13 Press Submit after all selections are made.

  13. 14 To start over press Reset

  14. 15 Optional Information: If you have cookies enabled on your computer, the name and ID that you last entered will be filled in automatically. You can change them if desired. The case number is not remembered.

  15. 16 If you’ve entered a case number, this button opens the case edit page for that file. For this button to work you must be logged in to CMS otherwise you will get an Access Denied page.

  18. 19 Click here to visit the MUFON Homepage.

  19. 20 • The following page is the BGE form filled in with data from the MUFON Field Investigator’s Manual section called “How A Report Evaluates Itself”. • 4th Edition, Section XVIII Part 2 Page 221 • 5th Edition, Section II ST8.7 Page 187 On this first page however one of the sections was missed on purpose.

  20. 21 If you press SUBMIT but have missed any data, you will get a page similar to the following. Missing Data

  21. 22 The missing data will be indicated with the word “Incomplete” Use your browser’s back button to correct. If data is missing you will see this message

  23. 24 If all selections are made you will get a page like this containing your values. Look it over to make sure it is correct. You can still use your browser’s back button to make any corrections if necessary

  24. 25 PC The following pages describe how to cut and paste your results into your case edit page or report document using the keyboard shortcuts for PC and Mac. *On some keyboards the key will say “Control” instead of “Ctrl”

  25. 26 • Click anywhere on the results page. • Press Ctrl-A or Command-A to select all text

  26. 27 • Press Ctrl-C or Command-C to copy selected text to the clipboard.

  27. 28 • Switch back to your case edit page or open the document where you want the results to go.

  28. Put your cursor where you want your results to go in the case file text box or report document. • Press Ctrl-V or Command-V to paste your results. 29

  32. Recap • Fill in BGE Form • Press Submit • Make corrections if necessary • Select text on results page • Copy text to clipboard • Paste to your report • Save
