  2. WHAT IS CONTINUOUS COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION ? Continuous and Comprehensive evaluation refers to a system of school based assessment that covers all aspects of student’s development . It emphasizes two fold objectives. * Continuity in evaluation and assessment of broad based learning.

WHY CONTINUOUS COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION • External Examinations • ‘are largely inappropriate for the knowledge society of the 21st century and its need for innovative problem solvers‘ • Evaluation of Scholastic learning only on marks. • Ability of child not evaluated. • Limited Techniques of Evaluation do not identify learner’s level of attainment. • Resulting in Pass/Fail. • Causing frustration • and humiliation .

  19. Policy of Upscaling of grades in Scholastic Are • Policy of Upscaling of grades in Scholastic areas on the basis of grades obtained in co-scholastic areas/activities and revised format of performance profile for class IX

The following scheme may be followed for upscaling the grades in scholastic areas- • Those students who get total grade points in co-scholastic areas in the range 53-65 may benefit by getting upgraded to the next higher grade in two subjects in scholastic areas. • Those students who get total grade points in co-scholastic areas in the range 40-52 may benefit by getting upgraded to the next higher grade in one subject in scholastic areas.

  21. No upscaling is done if the grade obtained in the subject is E2 or A1. • Upscaling is done from lowest grade to next higher grade and so on. • The upscaling of grade in scholastic area is applicable in main subject only.

  22. Problem Solving Assessment(PSA) • CBSE has introduced Problem Solving Assessment for class IX and class XI with effect from 2012-13

  23. Salient Features of the Scheme • It is mandatory for all students of class IX and XI to appear in PSA • There is no specific syllabus for ‘PSA’ .It will assess the life skills relating to following areas - • Quantitative Reasoning • Qualitative Reasoning • Language Conventions

  24. Paper Pattern • The PSA questions will be in the form of MCQ’s which reflects 21st century skills- • Creative Thinking • Critical thinking • Decision Making • Problem Solving and communication -that lead to success of secondary stage

  25. For class IX:The ‘PSA’ will be counted towards FA-4 which is 10% of total assessments of class IX.This assessment will also be carried forward towards the FA-4 in class X.This score will be reflected in one language (English or Hindi),Mathematics , Science and Social Science
