Goals • Encourage all relevant actors and stakeholders to protect the integrity of the electoral process • Raise awareness of electoral processes’ key role in supporting sustainable democracy • Promote the adherence to international electoral principles by national, regional, continental and global actors • Re-situate electoral processes within security, democratization and development contexts

  3. Objectives • Provide a compelling and comprehensive approach for national and international efforts to successfully safeguard the integrity of the electoral process • Provide recommendations to national governments, institutions and civil society as well as international and regional organizations on how to collaborate effectively to translate the new approach into practice • Promote, including at high political level, renewed commitment to the integrity of electoral processes

Commission’s Tasks Development of recommendations Identify major challenges Examine engagement of the international community Examine the roles different stakeholders – development, human rights, security and electoral communities Mobilisation of political commitment Advocate a more central place for electoral processes Publicly present its recommendations- advocate for inclusion of recommendations on the agendas of relevant stakeholders

  5. Leadership The Commission’s Chair is Mr Kofi Annan, Chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation and United Nations Secretary-General (1997-2006) Vice Chair is Professor Ernesto Zedillo, Fredrick Iseman ’74 Director, Yale Center for the Study of Globalization and President of Mexico (1994-2000)
