Current research grants and contracts • Cancer Information Service contract from NCI • Prevention Research Center grant from CDC • Kentucky Cancer Registry grant from CDC • Appalachia Cancer Network grant from NCI • Colorectal Cancer High Rate/Low Rate Study grant: from CDC • Project to Overcome the Digital Divide grant from NCI • Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program contract from NCI

  9. Research grants and contracts pending or under development • Proposal to become an NCI Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication (under development) • Four RO1 proposals in cancer communication (under development) • NCI/NIDR oral cancer epidemiology grant (under development) • RO1 proposal to NCI on Changing the Patterns of Care for Stage III Colon Cancer (pending)

Kentucky Cancer Registry • Kentucky’s population-based central cancer registry • Funded by the Kentucky Legislature and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention • Gold-certified as one of the premiere cancer registries in North America • Part of the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program

  12. Kentucky Cancer Registry • KCR data • Shows age-adjusted cancer incidence rates by county and Area Development District (ADD) • Includes demographic information (age, sex, race, etc.) and cancer-specific information (type, stage, treatment, etc.) • Is managed by a state-of-the-art electronic data system

  13. Kentucky Cancer Registry • Shows how age-adjusted cancer incidence rates in Kentucky are different from those reported by NCI’s SEER Program • Shows how age-adjusted cancer incidence rates in Kentucky have been increasing each year since 1995 while the SEER age-adjusted rates have been decreasing

  14. Kentucky Cancer Registry • Annual Report of Cancer Incidence in Kentucky • Presented to legislators and all district cancer councils each year • Resource for cancer control planners, public health officials, hospitals, researchers, educators, policy-makers and journalists • Available on KCR Web site at http://www.kcr.uky.edu
