  1. Fundraising and Girlguiding • Why fundraise now? • Making the new branding work for us • Support from the team • T: 020 7592 1821 • E: Supporters@girlguiding.org.uk • FAC-T • Trainings • Developing supporting materials

  2. Different sorts of funding • Trusts • Companies • Communities • Statutory bodies • Individuals • Volunteer shops • Gifts in Wills • Gift Aid

  3. Think about… • Fundraising psychology “Good fundraising is about working together in partnership” You deliver great projects They provide the means to make it happen Together, a difference is made!

  4. Think about… • (Simplistic) Motivations: • Communities- benefit locally • Trusts- good work • Government- social targets • Companies-exposure to customers • Legacies- a lasting benefit • Projects tend to lend themselves to different sorts of funders.

  5. Think about… • Charitable Status • England and Wales- All units and areas are charities. Most are excepted from registering with the charity Commission unless income more than £100k, a permanent endowment, or rateable occupation of a building • Scotland- Must register with OSCR if want to describe themselves as charitable • Northern Ireland- Claire knows best! • More in the Guiding Manual • SHOUT ABOUT THIS!

  6. Think about… Telling people your unit is a charity • Perception busting • More support- money and time • PR

  7. Think about… Donor Cultivation and the gift that keeps on giving! • Partnership • Showing them results (literally?!) • Saying thank you

  8. Think about… Donor cannibalisation and fatigue • 30,000 guiding groups = competition for the same pot • Spreading the love • How can we stop this?

  9. Think about… Planning! • Plenty of time • Plenty of people • Different income streams to stop donor fatigue • Building monitoring and evaluation methods in to your planning CYCLE • Go!

  10. Outcomes • Outcomes: The overall difference • Objectives: The aim of this particular project • Outputs: What and how much gets delivered. Example • Outcomes: Girls have improved self-confidence. • Objectives: Girls understand influences on their self-image. • Outputs: 25 girls attend a one-day seminar on self-image

  11. Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme • New scheme introduced in April 2013 • Can claim Gift Aid on small one-off cash donations under £20 • Reasonable checks • Not eligible if you hold a Gift Aid declaration form for that donor

  12. Fundraising Network- Sharing ideas • Forums not working • Introduction of a new closed Facebook group called… “Girlguiding Fundraising Network” • Search and ask to join, or search Pip Girlguiding and ask me to add you to the group.
