  2. SVP by the numbers… • 8th SVP • 170 students • 2 dropped out • 10 international students • Alaska, Virgin Islands, Hawaii • Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Congo, Canada, El Salvador

  3. Overall Impression of the group… • Quiet • Well-behaved • “When is the other shoe going to drop…” • Adjustment, waking up, • DIVERSE!

  4. What really happened in SVP… • Campus Clarity • Student Conduct • SAISD Jam • ROC THAT! • OC Movie Night • Sunshine 2.o • Communication w/ DAS • Diversity/Identity w/ Stephanie Albert • Dating/Relationships w/ Ignite!

  5. Communication? • SVP 2018: • 49% ASL • 27% Oral • 19% Sim-Com • Cross-Registered AND SVP together: • 39% ASL • 42% Oral • 17% Sim-Com • 32% wear HA’s all the time • 23% wear CI’s all the time ***Majority of Cross-Reg. students are ORAL this year! 70%!

  6. Beloit Mindset Group for incoming 2018 class… • Born in 2000! No “label” yet! iGen? GenZ? But they’re not Millenials • Wikipedia has always been around • Have always been afraid of school shootings • Forms always have had more than two gender categories • Grown up with stories about where grandparents were on 11/22/63 and parents were on 9/11/01 • Huh? What’s “Enron”? • The Prius has always been on the road…

  7. There has always been a “Survivor!” • A visit to the bank has been a rare event • Exotic animals have always been providing emotional support to passengers on planes • Lightbulbs have always been shatterproof • Oprah has always been a magazine • Chernobyl has never produced power in their lifetimes • Donny and Marie WHO?

  8. There has always been more than a billion people in India • Films have always been distributed on the internet • Environmental disasters have always exceeded the Exxon Valdez oil spill (BP Deepwater Horizon, coal sludge spill in Ky, etc.) • The detachable computer mouse is almost extinct • Presidential candidates winning the popular vote and then losing the election are not unusual • They’ve never dealt with dimpled, hanging, pregnant “chads”

  9. “You’ve got mail” would sound as ancient to them as “number, please” would have sounded to their parents • RU-486, commonly called the “abortion pill” has always been available in the US • “I LOVE YOU” has always been a computer virus • Thumbprints have always provided log in security – and are harder to lose – than a password More: http://themindsetlist.com/2018/08/beloit-college-mindset-list-class-2022/
