Essential and Guiding Questions: • What are Liberalism & Conservativism? • What events/forces lead to the unification of Italy and Germany? • How did the forces of Liberalism and Nationalism begin to change society during the 19th century? • How did Otto Von Bismarck lead the unification of Germany? • How did Garibaldi, Cavour, & Victor Emmanuel II unify Italy? • How did the rest of Europe respond to these unifications?

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 • Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---Using your notes from the previous lesson, you and your partner are going to analyze the historical political cartoon assigned to you on the 1848 Revolutions. • You will answer the questions in the lesson. • Use your Pink Political Cartoon Packet that you received with the National Convention and Reign of Terror Lesson Plan to help you with this.

  4. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 • Group-Share: Turn to the opposing pair who had the other political cartoon. Present analysis. • Then answer the following question: What impact did the French Revolution and the subsequent revolutions have on divided peoples like that of Italy and Germany? Why?

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 • Groups: You will be broken up into groups to create a Historical Illustrated Timeline for either the Unification of Germany or Italy. • You will use three main resources and split the reading and note-taking between your group members. • Textbook: pages 630-633 (one person) with part of the Supplemental Reading to be fair • Ms. Barben’sPowerpoint (three people) • Photocopied Supplemental Reading (three people) • You will take notes on your assigned unification in the provided graphic organizer. • Then your group will create an Illustrated Timeline consisting of the identified 20 events for your country. • Each event must be in chronological order with an identified year or more specific date. • Each event must have a visual primary source to identify and define the event and help students remember. • Each event must have a detailed description of the 5 Ws, How, and Effects in bullet format. • You will then use the timeline to teach the class.

  10. Thursday, February 9, 2012 • Groups: Get together with group members and go over the notes. • Make sure everyone has complete notes in the graphic organizer. • Homework: Work on your Propaganda Poster for the last lesson.

  11. Friday, February 10, 2012 • Groups: Begin to create the Unification Timeline. • Split the events into two Oaktag Posters and half the group working on the first ten events • and the other half of the group doing the last ten events. • Homework: Work on your Propaganda Poster for the last lesson.

  12. Monday, February 13, 2012 • Groups: Finish your Unification Timeline. You will be presenting the next class period. • Homework: Work on your Propaganda Poster for the last lesson.

  13. Tuesday , February 14, 2012 • Class: Groups will present the Unifications of Italy Timelines, while the other groups take notes. • Homework: Work on your Propaganda Poster for the last lesson. Reminder: Propaganda Poster and Notebook due on this week’s Block Day!

  14. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 • Class: Groups will present the Unification of Germany Timelines, while the other groups take notes. • Groups: Two students who did the German Unification will be matched with two students who did the Italian Unification and you will complete the comparison graphic organizer. (Depends on time) • Homework: Finish your Propaganda Poster. It will be part of your French Revolution Unit Notebook Grade. It cannot be turned in separately from the Unit Notebook. • Notebook Due Tomorrow!
