IMPACT OF NATURAL CALAMITY • FLOOD in the three districts of South Bengal , viz., Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia affecting 2 lakh hactres of Kharif production • DROUGHT in the six districts of North Bengal, viz., Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Malda affecting 6 lakh hactres of Kharif production • Anticipate approx. 5 % reduction in over all Kharif food grain production.

  14. NEW INITIATIVES • SOIL FERTILITY MAPPING OF WEST BENGAL by NBLU & SS ( KOLKATA) – Rs. 1.49 Crs. Project Spread Over a Period of 15 Months. • COTTON CULTIVATION PROGRAMME -Rs. 2.84 Crs. Project for popularising Cotton Cultivation in Nine Districts covering an area of 10,400 hacts. by bringing ADDITIONAL AREA UNDER CULTIVATION.

  15. POST HARVEST MANAGEMENT Setting up of perishable goods Cargo Complex at NSC Airport. Developing marketing infrastructure, like, multi-shopping complexes, link roads, multipurpose cold storages through PPP. Creating website by NIC to enable future trading by farmers. Training of farmers on post-harvest technology. Amendment of the State Marketing Act by 2007 to incorporate provisions of the Model Marketing Act. Preparation of “VISION – 2011” in marketing of agricultural products
