Hunters and Gatherers • The men were the hunters. • The women were the gatherers. • They hunted wooly rhinos, mastodons, bison, deer, and mammoths. • They gathered roots, berries, nuts, seeds, and fruits. • All the things they gathered and hunted they used for resources. • They used a atlatl to through the spears to kill some of the resources.

Farmers and Herders • They domesticated animals to provide resources. • The women were the first people to domesticate plant • Farming lead to the building of permanent homes gathered together in a village. • The earliest crops were wheat and wild barley. • They used to prepare soil for planting- • they cleared the trees • they burned them • they mixed the ash with the soil to fertilize it. • We don’t use it because it causes pollution. • They had problems like clear land, fights over land, and threats to crops : insects, plant • diseases, flooding, and drought.

  4. Jericho, Catal Huyuk, and Ur • Jericho, Catal Huyuk, and Ur were early farming villages that were developed • Jericho, Catal Huyuk, and Ur traded with each other. • They all were complex societies, because they all had a food source. • All the villages had homes for people to stay in. • All the towns had there own religion.

  5. Short Summary • We learned that, the ziggurat and Ur, it was a complex society. • All the cities had their own religion. • The farmers and herders were the first to domesticate pigs, sheep. • Ur has to enter their house through the roof.
