What is INVEST 1.0?
  • It is self-evaluation tool
  • It identifies and recognizes above-and-beyond efforts
  • The tool considers the full lifecycle of projects

Features of INVEST 1.0

Includes six different scorecards for evaluating projects based on type of project (basic and extended) and location (urban and rural)

The scorecards assign point values to each sustainable best practice on the basis of relative impact on roadway sustainability

  • It contains a manual of goals and criteria for sustainable highway practices
  • Each criteria describes a particular practice, methods for implementing it, and sources to document practices

What is FHWA’s Stance on INVEST & the GA Division’s Role?

The goals of INVEST do not replace FHWA’s other goals, priorities, or policies

INVEST is intended to complement and support many of FHWA’s existing programs

The Division will provide outreach, education, and training opportunities to GDOT, the MPOs, and local officials upon request
