  2. Climax, principal, and momentous have very similar meanings. Climax: the most important or intense part of a story Momentous: very important Principal: highly important The climax of the story is when the talking rats almost eat Jack in the underground tunnel. Graduating from college is a momentous occasion in a kid’s life. Your principal duty as a student is to listen in class, study at home, and make really good grades.

  3. Haughty and pretentious are both adjectives that describe snobbery. The pretentious singers claimed that their song was the best one ever. The haughty boy considered himself superior to everyone else at school. Pretentious means self-important, like you consider yourself to be the most important person. Haughty means proud…and you let everyone know it, too!

  4. Illustrious and legendary are adjectives that describe how important, famous, or well-known someone is. With all the illustrious actors, it’s no wonder that movie was such a big hit. Superman is a legendary hero whose strength and bravery have made him a role model to kids everywhere.

  5. Necessities and compulsory both mean “required.” When we backpacked through the mountains, we carried only the bare necessities with us. If you want to survive a backpacking trip through the mountains, it is compulsory that you have food, water, and shelter. It is compulsory that we carry only the bare necessities with us on our trek through the mountains.
