  3. For over a decade, Glenbow has been digitizing its archival collections. The library has most of its indexes available online, so you can see what’s available but the bulk of the material isn’t actually digitized. In 2005 we began digitizing our museum collections, utilizing partnerships. Developed in tandem with redesign of corporate site Glenbow’s main collection search page

  4. Information on objects currently stored in multiple places Desire to provide more than just basic collection data What other information would be useful for the end user? What additional information is needed to aid in finding objects? Museum Collections Present Unique Challenges

  10. Major Factors for Success:Are the Right Partners and People Involved? • All organizations affected by the partnership at the table early in the process • Partners committed to both the process and the outcome • Partners have the power within their organizations to make the decisions necessary to move the partnership forward • Contingency plans for turnover/absences • Adequate leadership for the project itself and with each partner organization

  11. Major Factors for Success: Define Your Goals and Objectives • Needs assessment conducted to develop goals and objectives • Goals and objectives articulated • Goals and objectives are agreeable to all partners --do all partners benefit? • Are goals compatible with the organizations' own mandates? Have boards, committees, staff and volunteers been informed?

  12. Major Factors for Success: A Process/Framework for Your Project • Working structure for your project that works for partners and aids project development • Create a structure that allows for flexibility for extension, unanticipated changes or departure of partners • Roles and responsibilities of partners clearly articulated • All partners forthcoming about their expectations, objectives and limitations • Are partners promoting the partnership/outcome within their own communities/networks? • What are the project’s criteria for success? Are these linked to the goals and objectives? • Are partners collectively responsible for both decisions and results?

  13. The user as a digitization partner. Ability to add keywords to the works, describing the object in their terms. Adds to overall usability and access to digitized works Provides function for user they expect (greater interactivity in their online experience) Filters and ability to delete Add function to corporate site Impress Artifact Detail Page

  14. What’s Next for Glenbow’s Museum Collections? • Continue to pursue partnership model • Broad-based digitization strategy • Easy digitization strategies • User evaluation key • Digitize works that have relevance/resonance for our communities • Provide context for user

  15. Your Organization • What digitization project are you currently working on or would like to pursue? • What are your organization’s goals for this project? • Where could partners be involved? • How would this aid them?
