  3. I created a Jedi Training Academy. Dylan’s 5th Birthday

  4. Jedi Training Academy – more specific than Star Wars!

  5. Easy to come up with ideas that went with Jedis.

  6. Aaaaaaaand, this made me think of reading!

  7. Good readers go back into their reading and think about the theme in their books!

  8. Sometimes readers get confused. They tend to think that the topic is the theme!

  10. When you think about Theme….Think message, lesson, big idea, and what is the author trying to teach us?

  11. Thank You, Mr. Falker Subject/Topic: A little girl has difficulty learning how to read and a very kind teacher takes the time to teach her how to read and to learn to love it! Themes: Perseverance Hard work pays off in the end. Determination Patience Practice makes perfect. If you don’t succeed, try, try again. Thank You, Mr. Falker

  12. Thunder Cake Subject/Topic: A little girl’s grandma helps her get over her fears by baking a cake. Fear Themes: Don’t let your fears overcome you. Mind over matter.

  13. Click, Clack, Moo Subject/Topic: Cows type letters to farmer about unacceptable barn conditions. Equality Fairness Freedom of Speech Theme: Words are powerful Weapons.

  14. Readers….from this point on, at then end of each novel you read this year write at least 1 subject/topic and 1 theme statement on a sticky note. I know you can do it!! Subject: Theme:
