  5. Hinduşii o consideră sacră. Legenda spune că veveriţa a ajutat la construirea podului Adi sethu la Rameswaram, pod construit de Rama şi Vanara Sena. Veveriţa se tăvălea în nisipul de pe plajă şi apoi alerga iute să-l scuture pe pod, cântând tot timpul numele lui Rama. Zeul a auzit-o şi încântat a mângâiat-o pe spate, iar urma degetelor lui se vede şi acum.

  6. Se hrăneşte cu fructe şi alune, dar poate fi uşor domesticită şi acceptă hrană de la oameni. Când este în pericol scoate un sunet ascuţit un fel de „cip, ciip, cip”. În captivitate trăieşte cam 5-6 ani
