  2. Focal Texts

  3. Commendable attributes of the Thessalonian Church

  4. How are we supposed to preach the gospel? • Without seeking honour from men (John 5:41,44) • Without seeking great things for ourselves (Jeremiah 45:5) • Without trying to make a name for ourselves (Genesis 11:4) • Without having men’s persons in admiration because of personal advantage (Jude 16)

  5. How are we supposed to preach the gospel? • Without having our hearts stained or soiled with covetousness (1Thess. 2:5; Ezekiel 33:31) • Without using flattery in order to make a gain of the congregation (1 Thessalonians 2:5; 2 Corinthians 12:17-19; Psalm 5:9; Proverbs 7:21-23; Daniel 11:21) • Without seeking glory, praise, applause, approval, or awards from the church or the world (1 Thessalonians 2:6; Galatians 1:10)

  6. What are some challenges that Paul went through in preaching the gospel • Affliction (1Thess. 1:6; 3:3,7; James 5:10; 2Timothy 1:8; 4:5) • Opposition (1Timothy 6:10) • Persecution (2Thess. 1:4; 2Timothy 2:12) • Contention(1Thess. 2:2; Titus 3:9)

  7. Virtues demonstrated by Paul and his companions towards their converts

  8. EXEMPLARY CHARACTERS EXPECTED FROM CHRISTIAN YOUTHS • Present your body daily to the Lord as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1,2). • Spend much time meditating on the Word of God(Psalm 119:11). • Pray to be kept from sin (Genesis 20:6; Psalm 19:13). • Control your thoughts. Be careful to avoid the evil influence the social media, TV, pornography, questionable immoral places that can open doors to sinning and moral failure (Philippians 4:8; Proverbs 4:23-27).

  9. What does it mean to walk worthy of God? • Keeping the Father’s commands from a sincere, honest heart. • Living a life of transparent purity and heavenly virtue. • Honoring the Father’s will above our desires and opinions. • Upholding His standard and making it our principle for living. • Denying ourselves to bring glory to God, whatever the cost. • Working for the increase of His kingdom while we decrease in our personal ambition. • Teaching others to honour Him who has bestowed such grace upon us.

  10. Why did Paul follow up his converts? • To see how they are doing (Acts 15:36) • To impart spiritual gifts unto them and get them established (Romans 1:11) • To set in order all things in the Church (1 Corinthians 11:34; Titus 1:5) • To perfect (develop) the saints for the work of the ministry and to edify the Church (Ephesians 4:12) • To perfect that which was lacking in their faith (1 Thessalonians 3:10) • To ensure that they are holy before God (1 Thessalonians 3:13) • To warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded (and) support the weak (1 Thessalonians 5:14)

  11. What should be the hope of every Christian Youth?

  12. Questions • Should opposition hinder us from living right or preaching the gospel? • How do we care for members and converts under our supervision? • How should an officer handle Christian service and secular things? • What should be the purpose of visiting the members and converts? • What should be the hope of every Christian youth?
