  2. What is Lake effect snow? • Areas to the SOUTHEAST of a lake get more snow than nearby areas • Moisture from the lake causes more snow to fall

  3. How is it formed? • Cold air flows over the warm lake water, the water heats the air. • Warm air is less dense and it can hold more water vapor. • Warm air rises and begins to cool. • As the air cools, the moisture condenses and forms clouds • snow falls from the cloud once the air condenses

  4. Cold air moves over warm water. The water heats the air. Water evaporates in the air.

  5. As air rises it cools and condenses again, forming clouds • As the water vapor cools more, it forms snow
