  1. Unit Overview: The Human Body • Unit Overview: This unit will lead students through investigations of organism’ organization from basic to complex. Students will investigate processes that are associated with systems such as digestions, respirations, excretion etc.  • General Concept Overview – levels of cellular organization, roles of systems. Interaction of systems, homeostasis

  2. Standards • Focus Content Standard • S7L2. Students will describe the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems • Elements • S7L2c. Explain that cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into systems, and systems into organisms. • S7L2d. Explain that tissues, organs, and organ systems serve the needs cells have for oxygen, food, and waste removal. • S7L2e. Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body (i.e., digestion, respiration, reproduction, circulation, excretion, movement, control, and coordination, and for protection from disease).

Enduring Understandings • Organ systems serve the needs cells have for oxygen, food, and waste removal. • Major organ systems are interdependent. • There is a hierarchal relationship between levels of organization. • Essential Questions • How do organ systems maintain homeostasis? • How do major organ systems interact with one another to keep the body alive? • How are the levels of organization related?
