  2. What is a preposition? • A word that relates a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence • They indicate direction, position, time, or location.

  8. What is a prepositional phrase? • A phrase that begins with a preposition, ends with the object of the preposition, and includes any words that modify the object. • They will picnic (by the river). • The cake was decorated (with twelve candles).

  9. How do I find the object of the preposition? • It’s the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition and tells “what?” • The key is under the rug. • Under what? - rug • to my uncle • between the lines • until next spring • with twigs and grass to what? - uncle between what? - lines until what? - spring with what? - twigs, grass
