  3. Objectives • To recognize prepositions and prepositional phrases and understand their functions in the sentences • To distinguish between prepositions and adverbs • To employ standard English usage in writing for audiences, including parts of speech

  4. Review There are many other word classes, these are just the four basic

  5. Prepositions! Links a noun or a pronoun with another word in a sentence. It is placed before a noun or pronoun.

  6. Practice • Read the sentences on the following slides • Identify any common prepositions that you see

  14. Compound Prepositions More than one preposition used together. Links a noun or a pronoun with another word in a sentence. It is placed before a noun or pronoun.

  21. Set Expressions Some specific prepositions are closely connected with the verbs or adjectives that come before them. They are used as fixed expressions.
