SENCO • Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo) is Mrs Faithfull. • Responsible for any additional needs that pupils may have and leading team of Learning Support Assistants (LSA) • Work with Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Advisors. • Individual targets will be created for all children including those with additional needs. These will be shared with children and parents each term. • Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) will be written and discussed with children and parents as required.

  4. Stretching our Children • Higher Attaining Children are managed by Mrs Faithfull. • Responsible for tracking more able children and ensuring their individual talents are catered for including academic subjects and sport and creative subjects • Progress is tracked by the school and governors. • Needs are catered for in class. All teachers have had training to ensure challenging work for more able children is set within the context of each lesson. • Some groups attend various activities organised by other schools in the area e.g Maths Olympiad and Press Gang.

  8. P. E. Kit County regulations dictate that for gymnastic and movement lessons in the school hall children must be barefoot, even if they have cuts, blisters or a verruca. If these are split and or painful they could be covered with a sticking plaster. For invasion games with apparatus (e.g. hockey) a pair of lightweight plimsolls (NOT TRAINERS) should be worn. Trainers or a separate pair of plimsolls should be worn for outdoor games.   9. Key Days of the Week • Library – Monday • Games – Friday during PPA • P.E. – Tuesday • PPA – Friday • Learning Logs – new objectives on Thursday, due in Tuesday.

Homework – Learning Logs • All homework is given out on Thursday and is to be returned on Tuesday. • Children are expected to spend the suggested amount of 45 minutes for children in Year 5.The pages can be divided up as they wish. • One Maths or Literacy objective every week and one other. • Objectives are always put on the website.

Homework • Daily reading (5x week) • Daily Spellings (School & Home) • Learning logs will go out on a Thursday and come back in the following Tuesday. • Children will be given a mix of homework, some of which may be set over 2-3 weeks. • Expectations: Reading and Spelling –30 minutes per week Homework task – 45 minutes • Homework Club – Every Monday after school (please ask for a permission slip) - and this can be particularly helpful if your son or daughter doesn’t have access to a computer, the internet or a printer at home.

  12. Behaviour Code A copy of our behaviour code has been sent home in a newsletter and is also available on our website. This is based around the Golden Rules: Do be gentle Do not hurt anybody Do be kind and helpful Do not hurt people’s feelings Do work hard Do not waste your or other people’s time Do look after property Do not waste or damage things Do listen to other people Do not interrupt Do be honest Do not cover up the truth We also have a range of rewards –STEP awards, Merit Awards, Praise Points, House Points, Behaviour rewards,

  14. Behaviour Code A copy of our behaviour code has been sent home in a newsletter and is also available on our website. This is based around the Golden Rules: Do be gentle Do not hurt anybody Do be kind and helpful Do not hurt people’s feelings Do work hard Do not waste your or other people’s time Do look after property Do not waste or damage things Do listen to other people Do not interrupt Do be honest Do not cover up the truth We also have a range of rewards – STEP awards, Merit Awards, Praise Points, House points Sanctions are applied as follows: A gentle, non-confrontational verbal or visual reminder of appropriate behaviour and a request to stop the Inappropriate behaviour Step 1 A child is given a verbal warning, the rule broken is explained to child and the child’s name is recorded on the class display Step 2 The child’s name is moved to the next step on the class display, with a reminder of a) appropriate behaviour and b) that s/he is at risk of losing Minutes Step 3 The child loses 5 minutes of break time . Step 4 The child is given a lost lunchtime, Parents are sent a text telling them why their child has received a lost lunch. Step 5 If a child receive 2 or more lost lunches in a week then they will also be given an afterschool detention on a Tuesday or Thursday with the Assistant Head teacher or Headteacher. Step 6 The child is sent to a member of the Senior Leadership Team and can be isolated internally or excluded. If a child persists in misbehaving beyond step 4, if there is a consistent pattern of misbehaviour or in cases of extreme behaviour, then the Headteacher may issue a fixed term or permanent exclusion, or afternoon detention, isolate the child from the class for a fixed period, invite the parents in to discuss the child’s behaviour or initiate an Individual Behaviour Management Plan.

  15. Minimum Expectations • We are continuing to help improve the presentation in children’s books and develop a sense of pride in their work through minimum expectations.

  16. Whole School Expectations Minimum Expectations for the Whole School • No doodling in any books, including the cover. • 'I', long date and own name always capitalised. • No capital letters in the middle of words. • All learning in children's books to be dated (long date English and other subjects, short date maths) and the learning objective (and success criteria as appropriate) to be written at the start of work. • All underlining or drawing of margins or other straight lines to be done with a ruler and pencil. • Handwriting to be formed on the line. • Writing only in pencil, blue handwriting pen or cartridge pen as appropriate, not gel pens, felt-tips or biro. Coloured pens or highlighters to be used for specific purposes. • Mistakes to be neatly erased or crossed through with a single straight line. • One digit per square in maths. • Paper to be stuck neatly into books, not overhanging the edge of the book. • Success criteria to be completed. • Teachers’ comments to be responded to.

  20. PTA Our PTA have a section on the website that is available also as a means of communicating ideas. The next meeting is 29th September 9am

  21. Lunch & Snacks • There is a choice of hot school dinners available for £2.00. There is a 3 week menu that can be seen at www3.hants.gov.uk/caterers If you are entitled to free school dinners, you can collect a form from the office, or download one from the school website. • Mid-morning snacks are also sold and cost 30p for a piece of fruit, bread roll or cup of flavoured milk or fruit juice. A box of raisins costs 10p and cartons of fruit juice or fruit bread cost 35p. Alternatively, you can send in a piece of fruit or a carton of fruit juice for break time. • We do ask for plain water only in class.

  22. Parent Volunteers • We welcome parent volunteers and appreciate their time and support. • All volunteers must be DBS checked. • Please talk to your child’s class teacher if you would like to volunteer.

  23. Assemblies • No class assemblies in Autumn Term. • Please watch out for letters in the Spring and Summer terms. • Merit Assemblies take place on Fridays and parents of children receiving awards will receive an invitation to the assembly.

  24. After School Clubs • A list of all of our after school clubs are on the website. www.hartplain-jun.hants.sch.uk Please note we have homework club available on Monday after school. Please return the permission form to the office.

  25. School Council • Children are taught about democracy and how the system works. • They are also encouraged to take part in the decision making process within school. • Each class elects a class councillor. • School Council elections will be held on 30/9/14 • Council gives the children a voice and a forum to enter into discussions about things that matter to them. e.g Installing the ‘Buddy Bench’ on the playground.

  26. What to do if there is a problem • Speak to your child’s teacher on the playground at the end of the day, send a note or phone to make an appointment. • For more serious problems contact the Head Teacher (Mrs Tettmar), Lower School Leader (Mrs Roberts) or Upper School Leader (Mrs Faithfull)

  27. Government Expectations • Children are regularly assessed and your child’s levels for Reading, Writing and Mathematics are reported to you at the end of the year so that you can compare your child’s progress with national expectations. • The chart below shows the levels expected by the children at the end of each academic year.
