What we do in… • Reading Guided reading Topic Research skills • Writing Range of genres – fiction and non-fiction • Spelling& Grammar Spelling patterns using class spellings Grammar covered in Literacy lessons • Maths Number skills - applying in different contexts Regular mental maths including tables Shape, Space & Measure

  3. Routines • Homework: Given out on Fridays to be returned by Wednesday • PE: Wednesday and Friday Please name your child’s kit • English and Maths in the mornings where possible • Water bottles and packed lunch boxes • Coats everyday please!

  4. Targets • Class targets – English, Maths & Science • Individual targets – initially based on areas identified for development by Year 4 teachers and will be updated as appropriate

  5. Lead Topics for the year • Times of Discovery • Fit for Purpose • Whatever Happened to the Mayans • Around India in 30 Days • Right Up My Street • In Science we will cover electricity and circuits, grouping and changing materials, human changes, life cycles and reproduction in plants and animals

  6. Trips and visits • Sevington Victorian School – Term 1 5B Monday 6th October 5IR Wednesday 8th October • Variety Performance– end Term 2 • Cadbury World - Term 4 • Activities Week – Term 6 • Partner work with local secondary schools

  7. Homework • Daily reading • Regular times table practice (x12) • Weekly spellings (later in term) • Weekly- My Maths/other maths • Fortnightly additional piece from other curricular areas • Occasional extended projects

  8. Communicating • Weekly update on website/newsletter • Twitter account @CombeDownY5 • Open Door (after school if possible) • Via the office • Parents Evenings (October & February)
