  1. It is not uncommon amongst men and boys to be suffering from Gynecomastia. It is a condition in which breasts in male swell to become large to a size that is usually abnormal in men. Having male breast can be embracing and a person could be ridiculed for such condition. Gynecomastia treatment is the procedure that corrects this condition and is usually carried out as a corrective cosmetic surgery. Causes Gynecomastia Breast glands do exist in males but are non-functional and usually not noticeable. This condition can be caused by few reasons like obesity or extreme weight loss but the most common cause is the amount of estrogen level. If the level of this hormone is too high or not in balance with the testosterone level in the body, female like features become prominent in male. “Physiologic gynecomastia develops in up to 70% of adolescent boys and gynaecomastia increases with age as free testosterone levels decline and obesity becomes more common” according to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health website. Surgery for Gynecomastia Gynecomastia is treatable, there are many treatments available that can fix enlarged breast glands in men. Out of all Gynecomastia surgery is usually recommended when the enlarged breasts size is significant. This surgery is an invasive in nature hence it is performed under general anesthesia. If you are allergic to any medication you should let the surgeon know in advance so that they can find an alternative that is more suitable to you.

  2. In case the cause of Gynecomastia is excess fat, liposuction is performed by inserting a cannula through small incisions and fatty tissues are removed with the help of a vacuum pump operated by the surgeon that is connected to the cannula. Excision is performed in case there is excess glandular tissue to be removed. Excision basically means to cut, hence the lump that causes Gynecomastia is removed by excising tissue with a scalpel. Usually after removal of fats or excision the shape of areola changes or the nipple position moves it needs to correct. The surgeon usually repositions the nipple to a more natural position to correct the aesthetics of the chest region. Many times excision and liposuction are both performed at the same time. The explanation above is simplified for the purpose of this article but in reality the doctor in charge decides which procedure to perform on a case by case basis. Treatment Options for Gynecomastia The treatment options for male breast surgery depend on the health condition of the candidate. It usually works out best if the patient has elastic skin that can adjust to breast reduction. “Around 20% of gynecomastia is caused by medications or exogenous chemicals”- National Center for Biotechnology Information. If the drug that is causing the problem is stopped, improvement in the condition should be apparent within a month. But if the condition has been present for more than six months then because of less reversible fibrotic tissue the chances of reduction is breast size will be low. If there is an indication of lump in the breast tissue, biopsy is performed and if malignancy is indicated (malignant tissue lump is kind of tumor that is capable of invading into adjacent tissues in other words it is cancerous) then mastectomy is performed that is complete removal of breasts. In most cases surgery is usually the only option for long term effect. Medications for the Treatment of Gynecomastia Young male children during their puberty period might have an imbalance of hormones that causes enlargement of breast this pubertal Gynecomastia usually resolves itself in one or two years. Medical treatments are available to treat Gynecomastia but the drugs that are used for the said the treatment have not been approved by the FDA.

  3. Here are the lists of medicines available for the treatment: 1. Testosterone replacement therapy, as the name suggests it is a treatment to improve the testosterone level in males to reduce Gynecomastia. 2.
