How would the draft work today? National Draft Lottery: • Men turning age 20 during year of draft would be drafted first • Then men ages 21,22,23,24,25 • Men younger than 20 would not be drafted until men 20-25 had already been drafted
How Would the Draft Work Today? • Media Would be present • Similar Lottery Process: Two large air drums; one filled with balls numbered 1-365, the other with each day of the year (January 1- December 31)
Assignment • Write and/or illustrate a poster for a draft notice. Be sure to address what is the need to be filled and the criteria for persons who are to be drafted. • Consider: • Will women be included or exempted? • What age range will the draft require? • Will certain professions (i.e., farmers, students, etc.) or objectors be exempted? • What is the punishment for failure to comply?
