Egypt Background • Egypt Population: 84.5 million • HIV Prevalence among general population is less than 0.1% • The 2010 Bio-BSS conducted by FHI 360 & MOHP revealed: • Concentrated HIV epidemic among MSM population (5.7-5.9%) • Linkage to the general population through marriage (10.0-16.5%) • Overlap of risk behaviors: • MSM reported injecting drugs (2.3-4.9%) • Male IDUs reported having sex with men (7.7-14.3%) • Cultural and religious values limit MSM to access health care services

  4. MSM Findings • Of the 5,481 males who sought care at the CCCs between 2008 and 2012, 27.6% were MSM (n=1510)

Conclusions & Recommendations • The CCC model offers an attractive and practical solution for reaching MSM with proper care and support services. • The positive impact of peer support is ideal for reaching MSM. • Building the capacity of NGOs to provide HIV prevention and care services for MSM needs renewed focus. • The CCC model should be replicated in other Egyptian governorates
