Use ALL of the following words to write a description of how water changes state: • Water is an example of a physical change. • Water can be in a LIQUID, SOLID OR GAS state, but is still the same ENERGY. • You can FREEZE water as an ice cube. • You can MELT the ice cube back to a liquid. • Once the ice cube reaches it’s BOILING point of 100 degrees, it will turn to water vapor or CONDENSATION.

  3. 2. what effect does adding heat energy have on the density of a substance? • Density = mass/ volume • D = g/cm³ • Heat causes molecules to expand and at times loses energy. • Heat can cause the density of an object to become less dense.

Rank the following substances in order from MOST to LEAST dense. • Substance D Mass: 150g Volume: 15cm3 = 10 g/cm³ • Substance C Mass: 150g Volume: 25cm3 = 6 g/cm³ • Substance A Mass: 80g Volume: 40cm3 =2 g/cm³ • Substance B Mass: 20g Volume: 40cm3 = 0.5 g/cm³ • Formula for finding Density = • Density = Mass / Volume • (grams) / (Cubic Centimeters cubed)

If not, why not? • Water has a density of 1.00g/cm3 • Substance D Mass: 150g Volume: 15cm3 = 10 g/cm³ (no too heavy) • Substance C Mass: 150g Volume: 25cm3 = 6 g/cm³ (no too heavy) • Substance A Mass: 80g Volume: 40cm3 =2 g/cm³ (no too heavy) • Substance B Mass: 20g Volume: 40cm3 = 0.5 g/cm³ (yes, it’s density is less than 1.00 g/c3)
