  1. Twitter was founded on July 15, 2006 • The man who brainstormed the idea of Twitter was named Jack Dorsey • The original project name was Twttr, inspired by the website flickr.com

  2. A social networking service • Allows its users to send and read other users' messages called “tweets.” • Tweets are texted posts of up to 140 characters • Tweets are open text to the public

  3. Twitter can be accessed by anybody who has internet access • To start an account, you simply create a username and you are ready to tweet • Twitter has more than 175 million users • Twitter is very popular with celebrities, who utilize the site to reach out to fans and speak their minds
