Chapter Membership • 2008-2009 Chapter President: Jim Mullen • Wichita, KS • # of Members: 37 • Current #: 35 • Chapter Size Category: Small • Membership Goal for 2008-09: N/A • Recruiting and Contacting: N/A • Educational meetings were held on second Tuesday in September, November, January, May, and June. • Methods of communicating with members were mainly email, newsletter, website and board member person-to-person contact. May 2009 • Meeting Date: May 12 • Time of Day: Lunch • Attendance #’s: 12 members, 8 non-members • Topic: “E Waste Recycling” Election of Officers • Speaker: Jo Oliver, Sedgwick County • Comments: This meeting was a “no charge” meeting to attendees. June 2009 • Meeting Date: June 9 • Time of Day: Lunch • Attendance #’s: 9 Members • Topic: “How Sedgwick County Government Complies with The Kansas Open Records Act” • Speaker: Doug King, Sedgwick County Government • Comments: Very informative regarding Sedgwick County’s FOIA Process. Seminar Report • Topic(s): “Why are RIM Standards & Best Practices Important?”; “Fire to Firewalls—Information Values & Risks” “Best Practices for Long-term Retention of ESI” “Business Continuity-Dealing with Disasters & Incident Command Process” RIM exercise • Speaker(s): Kevin Joerling, ARMA; Katie Johnson, Upshaw Johnson Company; Ron Roberts, Devon Energy • Meeting Date: April 8 • Attendance #’s: 8 members, 1 non-member • Vendor Involvement/support: Had 3 vendors, great response • Comments: The attendance was disappointing. Special Projects • Community Involvement: Donated $200 to Advocates to EndChronic Homelessness Winter Overflow Shelter • Vendor relationships: currently 3 vendor members • Other professional organization projects/relationships: President presenting to Association of Legal Administrators at beginning 2009-2010 year and presenting to Lorman Education Services in August, 2009. • Promotions: “free” meeting to attendees • Scholarship programs/promotions: REAP (RIM Education Assistance Program). Gave away a registration for 2010 Leadership conference. Also used to send an extra person to Leadership conference this year. Good, Challenging & Different • What went really good this year: Good vendor support/sponsorship, membership remained consistent, added an extra meeting this year (free promo meeting) • What really challenged the Board and/or Chapter this year: Filling committee positions, economic downturn, decrease in attendance at meetings, speaker solutions • Thinking back what would the BOD or could the BOD have done different or would try next time: Try to set up programs prior to chapter year beginning Try to get some “case study” speakers Make sure to get info out to members on timely basis (meetings & spring seminar) Better organization, consistency with planning/communications Elevating Leadership in the Rocky Mountains – ARMA 2009 – Central KS Chapter Report
