  2. London suddenly changed in the 1980’s, it was one of the highest unemployment centuries with just under 75% of people being unemployed. People didn’t have much money to get private music lessons and to learn new skills, so they ended up being creative with their music and experimenting, which is how the Disco style of music faded away as new styles of music like Punk, Rap and Hip Hop were introduced. Public were shocked by this sounds, as they had never heard them before. These styles of music were found by creative people who experimented with different CD’s (which were also invented in the 80’s too.) by mixing the music together to create a whole different sound. The person who is said to of brang Punk to London was Malcolm McLaren (who was going out with Vivienne Westwood at the time), who went to New York and saw all the new musicians like The Ramones, who were starting Punk in New York. McLaren knew that Punk needed to come to London. When he was back in London, he decided to set up a Punk band, which ended up being the very famous Sex Pistols, they sung songs about breaking the rules, as they didn't believe in any of the laws. Many parents didn’t like them as they thought that they brang bad ideas into their children heads, however most children really liked them. Other bands which came around after the Sex Pistols in London were The Undertones and The Clash.

  3. Children were also effected by the crack cocaine. Suddenly it became a commonplace to see stories like “ Women throws her two children off the fourth floor” Through all this crime going on, many different types of new music were getting found out, these include; Punk, Rap and Hip hop. Like London many people were very surprised and shocked by this new music, as it was totally different to the usual disco music played almost everywhere. People have said that Hip Hop and Rap originated from New York city in the late 1970’s-early 1980’s. A few hip hop artists of this time are; Grand Master Flash, Melle Mel, Rakim and Chuck D. Punk was also a new thing in New York., it originated from hardcore punk which was around in the 1970’s but then got token over by Punk. Punk music, was very fast, hard edged music, while Hardcore Punk was more thicker and heavier then Punk. A few punk bands of the 1980’s were; The Stooges, The Ramones, Television, The Distillers, The Dictators, Blondie, The Vibrators, Dead Kennedys, Patti Smith. New York in the 1980’s also changed, like London, in New York the crime rate rose suddenly as the new music came in, this is because this new music was different and breaking the rules, and also lots of peopletrying crack which came into the city, in the summer of 1985. Crime rates spiked in the 1980s and early 1990s as the crack epidemic hit the city, one dosage unit of crack could be obtained for as little at $2.50! The prisons in NYC in 1986 were so full up (104% capacity and holding 13,475 prisoners) led to rioting among the prisoners.
