  2. Do Now • Which form of government from the video scared you the most? Why?

  3. Democracy • In a democracy, the government is elected by the people. • A democracy is determined either directly or indirectly through elected representatives. Republic Governed by the Law.

  4. Anarchy • Anarchy is a situation where there is no government. This can happen after a civil war in a country, when a government has been destroyed and rival groups are fighting to take its place. • Anarchists are people who believe that government is a bad thing in that it stops people organizing their own lives. • Example: Afghanistan?

  5. Oligarchy • A government in which a few people such as a dominant clan or clique have power: • Wealthy Families • Military Families • Sparta • South Africa

  6. Monarchy • A monarchy has a kingor queen. • The ruling position can be passed on to the ruler’s heirs or children. • Constitutional Monarchy, like the UK, has a democratic government (Parliament) that limits the monarch's control like U.S. (Congress).

  7. Dictatorship • A country ruled by a single leader. • The leader has not been elected.

  8. Communist • In a communist country, the government owns businesses and farms it provides its people healthcare, education and welfare.

  9. Totalitarian • This is a country with only one political party. • People are forced to do what the government tells them.

She disbands the national congress and retains all power in government to herself. 3. The new President elect wins the election by a landslide. Over 90% of the citizens vote for the new leader.
