  1. How To Use A Palm Pilot When Assessing Students Training Module Design Plan Anna Munivez October 10,2009 EDTC 3332

  2. Needs Assessment: • It has been three years since our organization adopted an advanced technology for assessing the students. This technology was a palm pilot which consists of it being a tiny computer that can make a new teachers assessing method easier; but only if the teacher has received the proper training on how to utilize the handheld machine for assessing the students.

  3. Needs Assessment continued • The palm pilot utilized has the Readelearner program incorporated within it. This Readelearner program is an assessment tool used by our organization to assist new teachers with more accurate results on the assessments, and with these results the new teachers can better serve the students individual needs.

  4. Needs Assessment continued • Results have shown that new teachers who did not receive proper training on the technology and program are very dissatisfied with the overall succession process. I believe that all of these problems will be resolved by having all the teachers from our organization complete the computer web-based training, on “How to use a Palm Pilot when assessing students”, that will be created by Anna Munivez.

  5. Instructional Goal: There are step by step procedures that a new teacher must complete in order to successfully assess the students with the palm pilot and the Readelearner program. With the computer web-based training I plan to develop, I will involve all teachers’ thoughts and questions and I will develop the step by step procedures to assist the teachers on how to utilize the palm pilot and successfully assess the students.

  6. Performance Objectives: After completing this training, the learners will be able to: • Given the palm pilot (CN) the new teachers will learn how to manipulate a palm pilot(B) without any errors(CR). • Given a step by step instructional manual(CN) the new teachers will learn how to assess the students using a palm pilot(B)without any errors(CR).

  7. Performance Objectives continued • Given a step by step powerpoint(CN) the new teachers will learn how to assess the students using a palm pilot(B) without any errors(CR). • Given a step by step instructions through a computer webbased training program (CN)the new teachers will learn how to asssess the students using a palm pilot(B) without any errors(CR).

  8. Performance Objectives continued • Using the program developed(CN) the new teachers will implement assessing the students using a palm pilot(B) with no errors(CR). • Using the programs developed(CN)the new teachers will evaluate the enitre procedures on how to assess the students using a palm pilot(B) with no errors.

  9. Assessment of Learning Outcomes:

  10. Learner Characteristics: • The intended audience for this training is any new teacher who is serious about learning to assess a student using a palm pilot. • The new teacher must be able to read. • The new teacher must be able to follow step-by- step directions and procedures, while utilizing a training module with a face to face training officer. • The new teacher must be a little computer literate.

  11. Learning Context: • The new teachers will be able learn how to assess a student using a palm pilot from anywhere they have access to a computer, a palm pilot, and a student. It could be done in a classroom, and in a computer lab. The assessment area is designated by the teacher. The area must be a quiet area in your classroom, the area must be away from any distractions the assigned assessing student may encounter. This includes any counters or equipment that the teacher will not utilize during the assessment.

  12. Instructional Strategies: • Introduction: • This training is about teaching new teachers on how to assess students using a Palm Pilot with the Readelearner program. • GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: • I decided to make a step-by-step instructional design project on how to assess a student using a palm pilot with the Readelearner program. • With these instructions any new teacher who is interested in learning to assess a student using a palm pilot will be able to understand the simple ways into manipulating a palm pilot with the readelearner program and assesing the students. • The new teachers will also find the instructions easy to comprehend.

  13. Instructional Strategies continued • The new teachers will find it rewarding to be able to utilize this training throughout their careers. • Presentation of Information: • This project will be able completed first by the new teachers, reading the manual provided. • Next, the new teachers will watch a computer demo. • The new teachers will then complete the project by following the directions at their own pace. • Once completed, the consumer will be satisfied with their new accomplishment in learning how to assess a student using a palm pilot with the Readelearner program.

  14. Instructional Strategies continued • Assessment • The new teachers will be able to take an entry behavior checklist at the end of the task, in order to be evaluated for mastery of learning how to assess a student using a palm pilot with the Readelearner program.

  15. Instructional Resources: • REQUIRED TOOLS: palm pilot with Readelearner program installed, The palm pilot accessories include: a cradle, USB cable, charger, and the stylus, the Readelearners accessories includes: the assessment books, The step by step procedures manual on assessing the students, all the counters and equipment needed to assess the students such as, pencil, paper, colors, puzzles, a watch ect. computer, computer mouse, and the CPU.

  16. Training Module Blueprint:

  17. Formative Evaluation: • I will evaluate my instructional design project by: • Using fellow co-workers (new teaching staff) and • Subject matter expert review by using an expert, the instructor.

  18. Summary I propose that the computer web-based training will be created in a timely manner in order for it to be a success. I propose that the computer we-based training I will createwill be easily assessable for all new teachers and it will facilitate the process of utilizing the palm pilot and the Readelearner program when assessing the students. I propose that by having all new teachers complete this computer web training, problems will be resolved and conquered and problems will be transformed into solutions.
