  3. Objectives: • Teachers will be able to summarize Math/ELA instructional shifts • Teachers will be able to compare instructional shifts to current instructional practices • Teachers will be able to develop lesson plan incorporating one instructional shift

  4. Anticipatory set • On note taker sheet: • List as many of the Math/ELA shifts you can think of… • OR • What do you think are some of the Math/ELA instructional shifts with the new curriculum?

  5. Share out….

  6. Jigsaw • Count off in 3s • Read assigned Math shift and ELA shift • Take notes on note taker • Discuss notes and select one person to share out to whole group • Summarize each shift on note-taker – everyone writing!

  9. Independent practice • Start to: • Develop a lesson plan incorporating one instructional shift using scope and sequence as a guide.

  12. ELA Instructional shifts • Regular practice with complex text and academic language • Reading, writing and speaking grounded in evidence from text, both literary and informational • Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction
