  4. What is Crimestoppers? • ONLY charity in UK helping to solve crimes and find criminals • 24/7 call bureau 0800 555 111 and website www.crimestoppers-uk.org • For people who don't want to go to Police to report crime – they can give us information about crime anonymously which we pass onto Police • Not replacement for Police and not for 999 situations • Not part Police or a Government – not linked to Crimewatch • UK, Founded 25 years ago by Lord Ashcroft - In USA, 1976

  5. It works! As a result of information passed to us: • 22 people are arrested and charged every day • A person is arrested for murder every seven days • Suffolk saw 445 calls last year- an increase of 70% • 2012 – £34m of cocaine in pineapple boxes seized

  6. The anonymity guarantee We are proud that we have not broken our anonymity promise in 25 years • No personal details are taken • Calls are not recorded • Calls and online forms cannot be traced • Users are not required to make a statement to the police • Users are not required to appear in court • Rewards paid without compromising identity

  7. Why Crimestoppers? • Revenge and reprisals • Offender known • Might expose own activity • Distrust of authority • Any crime or criminal activity • Making community safer • M25 Rapist example - 2001

  8. Role of the volunteer committee • Represent and promote the charity at a regional/local level • Support local crime campaigns devised in conjunction with police, Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) and others - burglary, criminal damage, drugs crime etc...... • Fundraise to enable local activity • To manage the Crimestoppers reward scheme

  9. What benefit can we bring you? • We can bring in intelligence otherwise unavailable • We can help you meet your targets – detect and prevent priority crimes • Enhance community safety – something is being done • Community cohesion through volunteering • Add to your skill set by volunteering – media training, website editing etc…… • We can project manage campaigns and provide a full evaluation • Cost effective
