  1. The Animal Kingdom Walk, run, fly, swim, or slither in to learn more about the animal kingdom!

  2. What are animals? • Animals are multi-cellular organisms, which means they are made up of many cells. • Animals can’t make their own food. They must eat other organisms to survive.

  3. All animals belong to one of two groups.Click one to move forward! Vertebrates Invertebrates Animals with backbones Animals without backbones Click the star to go to the review page.

  4. Vertebrates • There are five groups of vertebrates. (click each group of organisms to learn more about them) • Fish • Reptiles • Amphibians • Birds • Mammals Click the star to go to the review page.

  5. Fish Fish have a backbone and are vertebrates. They have gills and scales. Fish are cold-blooded and live in the water.

  6. Other Types of Fish Click the smiley face to return to the list of vertebrates.

  7. Reptiles Reptiles have scales and they are cold blooded. All reptiles have a backbone. Some species of reptiles lay eggs and some give birth to live young.

  8. Other Types of Reptiles Click the smiley face to return to the list of vertebrates.

  9. Amphibians Amphibians have backbones and are called vertebrates. Amphibians are also cold blooded. Most amphibians have smooth skin. Some amphibians lay eggs and some give birth to live young.

  10. These Are Also Amphibians Click the smiley face to return to the list of vertebrates.

  11. Birds Birds are vertebrates because they have a backbone. All birds have feathers and they are warm blooded. Bird bones are hollow, and most birds can fly. All birds lay eggs, though not all eggs are laid in a nest.

  12. These Are Other Birds Click the smiley face to return to the list of vertebrates.

  13. Mammals Mammals arevertebratesbecause they have a backbone. All mammals have some type of fur or hair. Mammals are warm blooded.

  14. Other Mammals Click the smiley face to return to the list of vertebrates.

  15. Invertebrates • There are many types of Invertebrates. The three we will be learning about are: (Click on each group of organisms to learn more about them) • Mollusks • Segmented Worms • Arthropods Click the star to go to the review page.

  16. Mollusks Most Mollusks have a shell. They have an non segmented body. Mollusks usually need to live in water. They do not have a backbone, so they are called invertebrates.

  17. These Are Also Mollusks Click the smiley face to return to the list of invertebrates.

  18. Segmented Worms Segmented worms are divided into small sections. They are called invertebrates because they do not have a backbone.

  19. More Segmented Worms Click the smiley face to return to the list of invertebrates.

  20. Arthropods Another word for arthropod is insect. Some arthropods have a hard shell covering their bodies called an exoskeleton. Most have jointed legs and segmented bodies. They do not have backbones so they are called invertebrates.

  21. These Are Other Arthropods Click the smiley face to return to the list of invertebrates.

  22. Review Vertebrates Invertebrates • Vertebrates have a backbone. • Some examples are, fish, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. • Invertebrates do not have a backbone. • Examples of invertebrates are mollusks, segmented worms, and arthropods. Click this star to play the game!
