  18. Extension One of the key words in this lesson is civility. It ends with the suffix –ity. This suffix shows that a word is a noun. The meaning of a noun ending in –ity is usually connected to the meaning of its adjective partner. Civility is related to “beingcivil,” just as equality is related to “beingequal.” Civil and equal are adjectives. Civility and equality are nouns.
