Texting and Generations: Whoztxtn more? Kelli Abbey EDTC 5103 Oklahoma State University
What do you think? Question: The younger a person is, the more often he/she will use texting as a form of communication.
Let’s Test the Hypothesis! • Now that I have formed my question, I need to perform an experiment. • I designed a survey and gave it to 22 respondents within Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
What did I test? Independent Variable Dependent Variables Texting Each answer on the survey was associated with a number. This number was added up for each respondent and tallied. Sex 11 Males and 11 Females Birth country All respondents were from the United States. • Generation • Ages 9 to 80 years old • Born 1939 to 2001
Numbers and Data… • The data was divided by sex and age. The participants’ answers were grouped based on year of birth. • All answers for participants between 1930-1949 were added together and divided accordingly by males and females. This was repeated.
The Data Showed… Table 1: Relation of sex and age to texting Texting totals Year of Birth
The Results Prove… • The results show us trends. These trends can prove or disprove our hypothesis. • These results prove men born between the years 1970-1989 use texting more than women born between these years. • The older generations don’t text as frequently as younger generations. • Most men text more than women.
What did we discover? • The experiment told us that texting increases with age. The older a person is the less frequently he/she will text. • Our hypothesis was correct! • So whether you LOL or HAHA, a younger person is more likely to be able to teach you how to text than an older person. • (This information is based upon the survey conducted for OSU EDTC 5103.)
