A quick look backward to move forward 2006: Andrea Carvajal takes on webmaster activities from Simone Staiger; first content management systems (CMS) selected (Plumtree – same as CGIAR ICT-KM program) 2007:Plumtree too expensive and difficult to implement; 2nd CMS option – Liferay – analyzed , but rejected 2008: 3rd CMS – Joomla proposal finalized and ready, but not supported by CIAT IT due to security concerns; 4th CMS – Microsoft Sharepoint (MS-SP) recommended by IT and adopted (low-cost educational license). 2009: • Consultant in Bogota (VISION) prepares first version; • Entry page change to better reflect eco-efficiency and impacts); Webmaster change (Andrea Carvajal -> Maria Fernanda Mejia); Structural changes (implementing CIAT’s Strategic Plan) • MS-SP staff training (IT & CCC); one training component “Designer” still missing • CIAT Blogs launched (English & Spanish) initially complementing CIAT’s web site, later fully integrated • Innovative use of social media at Knowledge Sharing Week 2009 (also at Annual Program Review 2010) 2010: • January: Launch of new website (basic information with gaps) • February-June: study and implementation of MS-SP web parts (RSS, newsfeeds, Flickr photo feed, calendar, etc.); May-June: Andrea Carvajal supports Maria Fernanda in filling content gaps; training course on “Writing for the Web”. • Few Research Programs have filled in and returned web templates provided by CCC in October 2009; Communications Intern , Ellie Swindon prepares templates based on Research Program Syntheses. • Spanish web site structure put in place – content being re-written, translated , and/or adapted
