  1. Creating Vodcasts

  2. What is a vodcast? • A vodcast is something like a TV program or element of a program.  Unlike TV programs which you have to watch when scheduled, vodcasts are stored on servers and you can download them whenever you want. • “Video on Demand” (VOD) with ‘cast’ thrown on the end as in broadcast.

  3. Benefits of Vodcasting • Video content on demand – when consumer wants access • Easier and cheaper than TV production • Allows for skills and delivery convergence – a newspaper can be an online broadcaster and a broadcaster can be an online newspaper.  • Flexible mass distribution much easier.  • Little to no cost for maker or consumer – no copies to be made and distributed.

  4. Types of vodcasts: • Presentation vodcast.  Short video packages of less than ten minutes.  Usually features a presenter with either slide or video inserts.  • Actuality vodcasts.  This is simply edited video footage of an event.  It may be as short as 10 seconds or as long as 10 minutes.  It’s the sort of footage that supports stories also told using other tools such as text or static pictures, or makes up what we call a feature vodcast. • Feature vodcasts.  A video feature of less than 10 minutes produced in documentary form.  Usually displaying the standards of a documentary fit for broadcast on the BBC or PBS. • Educational vodcasts. A video presentation of any length designed to help people learn a subject.  It would employ a mixture of media production skills and educational methods for skills transfer and memory retention. • Drama vodcasts.  Video drama produced for the web. Dramacan be anything a producer wants it to be.  It may includeinteractive elements and be part of a broader interactiveexperience.
