Many students equipped with augmentative communication systems face challenges in environments lacking communication opportunities. This can lead to minimal usage or complete abandonment of such systems. To foster effective communication, we recommend establishing a peer support circle, training teachers and students, and addressing learned helplessness. Activities like "Planting a Flower," using step sequencing with Go Talk devices, and incorporating visual aids can help engage nonverbal and limited language learners. Resources such as PECS and Dynavox provide tools for successful communication strategies.
