  3. MATERIALS NEEDED • Two paper plates • copies of the moon phases ( cut outs) • glue stick • scissors • colored pencils • a fastener

  4. procedure • Cut out the template of the horizon/sky model • Trace and cut a similar model onto the paper plate • Color the house and sketch an observer facing south • Label the directions ( East and West) • Label the EAST as A.M. • Label the WEST as P.M.

  5. Label the highest sky point as NOON • Using the background paper plate, cut/paste the Sun model or illustrate the Sun at the NOON position • Then, on the background plate, cut/paste the NEW MOON phase at the noon position. • Rotate the Sun about 45° westward, then cut/paste the WAXING CRESCENT phase. • Rotate the Sun (45°)to sunset position, then cut/paste the 1ST QUARTER MOON phase. • Continue to cut/paste the moon phases.

  6. LAB ACTIVITY • Use the handout provided to answer questions based on the model you created.
