Practice good study habits Know and Use the Right Program Guide See Your Academic Advisors Regularly Always Register for Courses as Early as Possible Watch for Important Announcements in your Rowan e-mail account Take advantage of our “fringe benefits”: research opportunities, student clubs, employment opportunities

People Who Are Resources Transfer Advisor Dr. Terry O’Brien - 201H Science Hall; ext. 3587 obrien@rowan.edu Note well: The transfer advisor assists you during the first semester or year of your studies here. Before the end of your second semester, you should makes arrangements to have another faculty member serve as your advisor.

  4. How do you select an an advisor for the B.S. degree in Biology? Find out which faculty have interests that match your career goals. How? See the Faculty Descriptions in the Department’s Webpage: www.rowan.edu/colleges/las/departments/biologicalSci Contact a potential faculty advisor and ask. If the faculty members agrees, report the agreement to Tricia Milano (Department Secretary, 130 Science Hall).

  6. People Who Are Resources Concentration Advisors Are In addition to your Advisor for the major. The coursework for the Concentrations is different than that for the major, but overlaps with the requirements for the major. Premedical and Preprofessional Concentration Advisor: Dr. Kate Dayton – 201E Science Hall Environmental Concentration Advisor: Dr. Terry O’Brien – 201H Science Hall

People Who Are Resources Graduate School Advisors Dr. Alison Krufka - 201C Science Hall Dr. Cristina Iftode - 201G Science Hall If you are thinking about or planning on applying to a Graduate School after earning your degree Graduate School advisors are not for advising for Medical Schools or Preprofessional Schools

  8. People Who Are Resources R.N. to B.S.N. Program for Nurses Coordinator: Ginny Wilson - 201C Science Hall Even if you are not enrolled in this program here, she is a good resource for information on getting into the nursing profession.

  11. People Who Are Resources Two Student Groups 1. The Biology Club The Biology Club organizes a number of different educational and social events every year. 2. The Pre-Professional Society The members of the Pre-Professional Club invite speakers who have expertise in health or other professional fields, in preparing for application to medical, dental or other professional schools, and in visiting places of interest.

Research Opportunities Contact individual Faculty one semester or more before you hope to begin research And/or look for announcements distributed by e-mail Course Credit is available: “Lab / Field Research” Generally, at least a two semester commitment is expected. This is a limited resource: keep trying, if no position is offered.

  15. What Courses Do You Need?Use a Program Guide to Find Out There are several program guides that apply to transfer students. Which one applies to you depends on you coursework elsewhere and your degree program here. Heads up! Use the right program guide! Program guides are available from Dr.O’Brien, the transfer advisor.

  16. Be advised For B.S. in Biology candidates, a grade of C or higher must be earned in each biology course. (A grade of C- does not meet the requirement.) Additional details on the requirements for a degree in biology are in the Undergraduate Catalog, available through the registrar’s website: http://www.rowan.edu/provost/registrar

  17. Important Announcement Be advised that GRAD, the online graduation analysis, is not reliable in some cases. What’s the solution? Use a consultation with an advisor and the correct program guide to determine your specific course needs.
