  1. WHAT’S IN YOUR WATER? ARE YOU DRINKING THE RIGHT WATER? Reverse Osmosis Core Concept: Reverse Osmosis is a technology that is used to remove a large majority of contaminants from water by pushing the water under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane. How it works: Reverse osmosis, or RO, is a common form of water purification. It contains a semi-permeable membrane that consists of Large and Small pores. These pores are large

  2. enough for water molecules to pass through, yet small enough to block other types of molecules. On one side of the membrane, the pressure is applied allowing water molecules to be forced through to the other side, thus, producing pure water, and contaminants are essentially filtered out. Pros: Removes around 95-99% of all contaminants from the water. Cons: RO Systems can be very costly. Some whole-home units can cost thousands of dollars. This does not even include what it will cost for installation of the unit. RO Systems can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to filter just one gallon. For every gallon of filtered water produced during the purification process, up to 20 gallons of water is disposed of and wasted. RO systems remove most of the minerals from the water leaving it with an acidic pH level Bottled Water Core Concept: Drinking water that is packaged in plastic or glass water bottles. How it works: Typically, water is sourced, purified using a multi-step purification process, and then bottled by a manufacturer. Convenient. Pros: Clean filtered purified water. Cons: Bottled water can be very costly. If you compare bottled water next to tap water, the cost difference can be astronomical. Tap water costs fluctuate closely around $0.002 per gallon. Bottled water can range anywhere from $0.89 per gallon to over $8.26 per gallon. These findings are based on a documented report in 2007, from the Food and Water Watch Administration. Bottled water is most certainly not environmentally friendly. According to the Container Recycling Institute, statistics have shown that as much as 86% of plastic bottles are discarded in the trash rather than being recycled. Some testing statistics have shown that bottled water has a neutral toacidic pH level.

  3. Water Filter Pitchers (e.g. Brita) Core Concept: Reduces chlorine taste and odor, copper, mercury, and cadmium to deliver great tasting water. How it works: Water filter pitchers like Brita use Granulated Activated Charcoal to remove some contaminants. Regular water filter pitchers have a simple 2-step procedure to filter water. As with the alkaline pitcher, water filter pitchers use a drip filter system that allows you to add water to the top of the pitcher, as it slowly drains through the filter and makes great tasting water. The filter then removes toxins that can cause odor and bad taste. Since the carbon is not solid, it does not remove all toxins, although these filters will improve taste. Pros: They are less expensive than that of many other filter options, and can save thousands per year versus using other water filtration systems. They also supply better tasting water for drinking, cooking, etc. Convenient and easy to use. Cons: It takes up to several minutes to filter an entire pitcher of water. Also, where it does filter out the majority of bad tasting, odor-causing bacteria, it does not filter all of the harmful toxins that can be in water; As well as not helping with the balance of acidity that can be found in the most common types of drinking water used today. They will reduce chlorine, but are not effective at removing VOCs, heavy metals, endocrine disruptors or fluoride. Alkaline Water Core Concept: Alkaline water pitchers are an easy way to get the benefits of drinking alkaline water for a fraction of the price in using countertop water filters. How it works: Using a drip filter system that allows you to add water to the top of the pitcher, as it slowly drains through the filter and makes great tasting water. The filter contains a fine particle filtering net that traps and removes sand, dust, rust, sediments and impurity particles. Using multiple mineral stones, it dissolves minerals and traces elements to alkalize and energize the water. Pros: There is a growing body of research which indicates that ionized alkaline water is the most superior drinking water available. With alkaline water, you always get great tasting

  4. water that will enhance the flavor of your cooking, coffee or tea. It helps to restore a healthy pH balance back to our bodies thus, improving overall health. Removes harmful toxins and helps in preventing disease. Better for the environment. Filtering your own water is much better for the environment, including much cheaper, than buying bottled water. Who needs all those plastic bottles filling up our landfills anyway? Easy to use. Cons: It can take a few minutes to filter a full pitcher of water. Many people do prefer bottled water, due to the convenience aspect of grabbing a bottle and you’re ready to go.
