  2. Pre-Test • What does it mean to think critically? • What process do you use to problem solve? • What resources do you think you would need to have to do your job? • In what ways can you use technology to be more effective on the job?

  3. Employers Seek Employees That Can: • Think critically • Problem solve • Utilize resources and technology

  4. Thinking critically means… • Having the ability to: • Evaluate a situation • Seek multiple perspectives • Gather information • Identify key issues to be addressed

  5. Critical Thinking is: • Decision making • Creative Thinking • Visioning • Problem solving • Knowing how to learn • Reasoning

  6. Problem Solving Skills • Able to find solutions to problems using: • Creativity • Reasoning • Past experiences • Available information and resources

  7. Decision–Making Process • 5 Step Process to Problem Solve: • Identify the problem • List alternatives • Determine pros and cons • Make the decision • Evaluate your decision

  8. Using Resources & Technology • Computer/Technical Literacy • Understand hardware and software • Use of various programs such as: • Word processing • Spreadsheets • E-mail

  9. Resources • Human Resources • Time • Money • Capital Resources

  10. Use Technology To: • Acquire information • Evaluate information • Organize information • Process information • Interpret and communicate information

  11. Learn to: • Select technology • Apply technology to tasks • Maintain and troubleshoot technology

Activity • Think of a decision you will have to make or a problem you will have to solve in the next 2-3 years (ex: where to go to college) • Apply the decision making process to that decision (write your first draft on lined paper) • Once you have drafted the process create a professional format in which to present your assignment – you may use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.
