  1. MAGIC GLAST Crab E.F(>E) [TeV/cm2s] MAGIC 10% Crab HESS E [GeV] 1% Crab • Cycle 1 of data taking from Mar 2005 to Apr 2006 • ~1200 hours, with efficiency ~80% • Close to design performance • 1 new galactic source discovered, plus 3 to 6 extragalactic • MAGIC Catalog opened by the Astronomical Association • 2 GRB observations during the primary burst • Many cooperations (Integral, Suzaku, Swift, GCN, optical telescopes; triggers sent & received…) • Papers published or submitted for all positive signals, but 5 (Crab, Mkn501, 3 possible new sources) • Threshold • Detect significant signal above 40 GeV • Publishing with a threshold of 70 GeV, and preliminary physics results at 50 GeV • Cycle 2 started on May 2006 • Objectives on fundamental physics, DM, GRBs, cosmological constants

  2. MAGIC Papers 2006 (up to now) • Variable VHE g-ray Emission from the Microquasar LSI +61 303, Science, 23 June 2006 • Observation of VHE g-radiation from HESS J1834-087/W41 with the MAGIC telescope, ApJ Letters 643, L53 (2006) • MAGIC Observations of VHE g-rays from HESS J1813-178, ApJ Letters 637, L41 (2006) • Observation of g-raysfrom the Galactic Center with the MAGIC telescope - ApJ Letters 638, L101 (2006) • Discovery of VHE g-raysfrom Markarian 180 triggered by an optical outburst, submitted to ApJ; astro-ph/0606630 • Detection of VHE radiation from the BL Lac PG 1553+113 with the MAGIC telescope, submitted to ApJ; astro-ph/0606161 • Observations of Mkn 421 with the MAGIC Telescope, Accepted by ApJ 2006 • Discovery of VHE g-ray emission from 1ES1218+30.4, ApJ Letters 642, L119 (2006) • Observation of VHE g-ray emission from the Active Galactic Nucleus 1ES1959+650 using the MAGIC telescope, ApJ 639, 761 (2006) • Flux upper limit of gamma-ray emission by GRB050713a from MAGIC Telescope obervations, ApJ Letters 641, L9 (2006) DISCOVERY GALACTIC DISCOVERY EXTRAGALACTIC DISCOVERY DISCOVERY 1ST OBSERVATION (NEGATIVE)

  3. Selected plots… SNR HESS J1834 imaged: Source is Extended! 2min resolution Light curve 90 cm VLA (green) + MAGIC (bck) + 12CO (black) Mkn501 giant flare Bins of 2 min !!! PG 1553 (New source ) 1ES1218(z=0.18) New Source • Galactic • Extragalactic First mQSR at VHE (up to 5 TeV) Hint of periodicity over 6T (Science) PG1553: source at z~0.3 detected at 9s

  4. The second telescope • Will allow improving the threshold (30 GeV?) and reaching HESS’ angular resolution and sensitivity at the TeV • Goal: to be ready end 2007, to make simultaneous observations with GLAST • Mechanics finished in Dec 2005, in schedule • Mirror production (new 1m2 technology tested on MAGIC 1): contract for the production of the raw blanks signed in June • We are late by 4 months, but still possibility to be on time
