  10. Snack/Water • Our classroom is a nut free classroom. Therefore, we will not be having in class snacks in second grade. • Please make sure your child has a well balanced breakfast. • Only sport top water bottles are allowed, but should be taken home each night to be properly cleaned and refilled. • Please label your child’s water bottle.

  11. Take Home Folder • Black Onyx Folder • This folder should come home EVERY day and be brought back to school EVERY day. Please check it each night. • Two labeled pockets inside: • Keep at Home pocket - Your child will bring home completed work or other papers that do not need to be returned to school. • Return to School pocket - Any notes you send should be placed on this side. Likewise, if there are papers that require your signature and need to be returned, your child will place them in this pocket. • Remember that if your child is having any transportation changes we will need a note. Also, if your child is going to a friend’s house we need a note from both parties.

  12. Assignment Notebook • Homework and reminders will be recorded each day. • It is part of your child’s homework to have you initial the parent signature section each day. • Look for the color corresponding with our behavior plan • This is also a great place to jot me a note if you have a question about the homework, etc.

  13. Homework • Homework will generally come home Monday through Thursday. • Homework will typically consist of: • Math journal pages • Reading minutes (20 minutes nightly) Homework will be posted on Konnect!

  14. Birthdays • The district has adopted a non-edible birthday treat policy. Please follow district policy when celebrating your child's birthday. We would like to encourage you to donate a birthday book to the class that will be read during your child’s birthday celebration. This book can be new or used and will remain in the classroom. • Please do not send birthday party invitations to be passed out at school unless inviting the entire class.

  15. Behavior Plan • Please check Konnect for the information regarding our behavior plan. Below you will see the clip chart we will be using for our plan.

  16. Second Grade Top Ten • All important information will be on Konnect • Please read and become familiar with our school’s handbook which is in the back of the school calendar (i.e. dress code). • The parent helper sheet is circulating. Please sign up if you are interested in coming in to help. • I’d like all students to bring in a framed family picture to show the importance of community in our classroom. • We will have a “Student of the Week”. When your child is “Student of the Week” please help them prepare. • Poetry will be a BIG part of our school year. If you or your child has a love for poetry please send in books to share or to donate! • We will study different authors throughout the year. Please pay close attention to the newsletters to see how you can help in our author studies. • We will have parties for Halloween and Christmas. We ask that if you sign up for one slot that you only take one spot so that others parents can sign up also. Each party will have one game parent and one craft parent. • Cursive handwriting will start second quarter.
