Schedule for Tonight • 3:15-5:30 Informational Booths/Parent Teacher Conference sign-up in gym • 3 separate 40 minute presentations (3:15-3:55, 4:00-4:40, 4:45-5:25) • First 20 minutes Curriculum PowerPoint • Last 20 minutes Supply Drop Off (Directions to follow Power Point) • PowerPoint will be available on Konnect • Students should work on questions

Balanced Literacy -CAFÉ • Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary -Guided Reading/Individual Conferences • Flexible small groups focused on reading strategies • Individualized instruction -Shared Reading • Whole group to teach reading strategies (CAFÉ) -Independent Reading • 20-30 min. daily - individual student reads at his/her independent reading level -Read-Aloud • Daily - books shared by teacher to teach skill or for enjoyment CONTINUED--

Spelling/Word Study: • Students are pretested and instruction is based on individual needs • Students work with words daily and words will be sent home for additional practice Fundations: • Explicit and systematic phonics instruction Writers Workshop: • Mini-lessons • Independent practice • Conferences • Sharing Reading Homework: • Reading calendar due on the last school day of each month. Total time varies month to month – 20 minutes per day in school.

Math New Math Common Core National Standards Flexible Math Groups • The students will be grouped based on pretest scores to best meet their educational needs • Report Cards – all skills must be secure by the end of the year, so report cards will look different this year Operations and Algebraic Thinking • Even and Odd Numbers • Addition and Subtraction Number Stories • Addition and Subtraction Math Facts (Rocket Math & Xtra Math) • Multiplication with Arrays Number Operations and Algebraic Thinking • Skip counting to 1,000 by 5’s, 10’s & 100’s • Place Value and representing numbers with Base 10 Blocks

Math Concepts Measurement and Data • Add and subtract using a number line (0-100) • Dollar and cents combinations • Tells time to the nearest 5 minute interval • Create and analyze bar and picture graphs • Equivalences for inches, feet, & yards • Money and length number stories • Estimates, measures, and compares lengths of objects using feet, centimeters, and meters Geometry • Identify and draw shapes • Fractions (halves, thirds, fourths) • Divide rectangles into same size squares and find the area

  12. Classroom Expectations BE READY, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE! • When someone is talking, sit quietly and listen. • Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working. • Be kind with your words and actions. • Follow directions when given by the teacher.

  14. Book Orders • Send check made out to Scholastic • Order online – sign up at www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs • Classroom Activation Code – GTVNB • Set own username and password • Use bonus points to add to classroom library • Note with order info & book suggestions sent monthly

  15. Reading Rewards • Book It! - Pizza Hut • Ozzie Club - Kane County Cougars • 600 Minute Reading Club - Great America • ALL 3 ARE OFFERED - STUDENTS SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN AT LEAST 1.

Birthday Celebrations • From the parent handbook: - “In order to promote healthy choices and support a culture of wellness in our schools, along with our concern for food allergies and childhood obesity, birthday treats in the form of food items will not be allowed. If a food item is sent, it will not be served and will be sent home. Suggested birthday “treats” can include things like: a pencil, a book for the classroom, or stickers.” • PARTY INVITES: (Also in handbook) – “Passing out party invitations in the classroom or at school will ONLY be allowed if ALL students are invited. If some children are to be excluded from the party, the parents will be responsible for distributing the invitations OUTSIDE of the school.” • Please do NOT ask me for address of students. For privacy reasons, I am not allowed to give them to you. A great resource for addresses is our school directory.

  17. Parent/Teacher Conferences • Wednesday, November 7th (4-8) • Thursday, November 8th (10-8) • Sign up for conferences in MPR • Per district rules, conferences not held on these days must be a phone conference – teachers are not to reschedule outside the days of November 7thand 8th.

  20. Supply Drop Off 1. CHAIR POCKETS • All folders – please place one label on each folder in the upper front right corner • All notebooks – please place one label on the upper front right corner • Binder – please place the label on the spine of the binder • Black folder – please put “Take Home Folder” label on the upper front right corner • Handwriting books – put the label on the upper front right corner and put in seat sack • 2. SUPPLY BOX • Please put the label with your child’s name and homeroom on the front of the box • Put following items inside: 1 glue stick, 1 Expo marker, 2 sharpened pencils, pink eraser, highlighters 3. CUBBY BY KIDNEY SHAPED TABLE • Put art shirt, colored pencils, crayons, and markers (make sure everything is labeled with name) 4. CONTAINERS ON KIDNEY SHAPED TABLE • Put all extra glue sticks, dry erase markers, and yellow pencils 5. CONTAINERS IN FRONT OF CLASSROOM • Plastic baggies, Kleenex, and paper towels ***Gym shoes go in cabinet with name on it
