  1. Construction of the EBIS-C Beamline Eli Parke…KSU Senior…REU 2006 and Future Experiments

  2. Introduction -Purpose/Motivation -Design and Construction -Status -Future Plans

  3. What is EBIS? • EBIS – a plasma device designed to generate highly-charged ions at low velocity • C – beamlines are designated in alphabetical order • For more information, see http://jrm.phys.ksu.edu/cryebis.htmlor google the article “Historical Review of electron beam ion sources,” E.D. Donets, Review of Scientific Instruments 66,2 (1998)

  4. Motivation Versatile Beamline For Multiple Associated Experiments

  5. The Physics Double Electron Capture Decay Mechanisms

  6. KER • Kinetic Energy of Release – breakup of CO • Autoionizing states associated with lower KER • Stable states associated with approx. Coulomb repulsion energy

  8. Pretty Pictures

  9. Status

  10. Delays • Bending the ion beam • Gas cell on stage 3 has very small aperture • Inconsistent current with poor focus • Switching from Helium to Hydrogen

  11. Distractions • Other experiments: GSD resonance, bond rearrangement, CEP • Time of Flight Calculator

  12. Future Plans • Finish assembling spectrometer • Modify detector chamber/flange • Try bending hydrogen beam • Goal: have stages 2&3 built by end of August?
