  2. Hydrogen Background • Discovered in 1766 by Henry Cavendish • Name means: to generate water • First element on the periodic table • Most abundant element in the universe! • Used in many reactions to make energy

  3. Periodic Table Information Symbol: H Atomic #: 1 Atomic Mass: 1.008 Protons: 1 Electrons: 1 Neutrons: 0 Classification:Non-metal Configuration: 1s1

  4. Where its found and in what form • Hydrogen is found in almost everything in the universe! From the sun to water hydrogen is in nearly everything. That makes it the most abundant element in the universe. • Hydrogen is found at a Gas at room temperature, not liquid like some would think.

  5. Physical Facts:

  6. Uses • Hydrogen is used in the production of ammonia • Used in hydrogenation, which means hydrogen is added to unsaturated oil to keep fat from becoming old and stale • Used in metal refining, removing unwanted elements • Liquid hydrogen is used as fuel for rockets that have sent Space Shuttles into space • Hydrogen is also used in hydrogen powered cars and
