  1. Reaction Powered Car“The Boss” By: Blake Inglin, Rachel Dana, and Priya Gupta

  2. Reaction Chemistry • Our reaction involved Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Bicarbonate. • HCl(aq) + NaHCO3(aq) H2O(l) + CO2(g)+NaCl(aq) • Calculations were done to find how many milliliters of HCl we could use without going over 5 atm. • 12 mL x 12.1 moles HCl = .1452 mol HCl = .1452 mol CO2 1000 mL HCl • PV=nRT P=nRT/ V (.1452 mol)(.0821 Latm/molK)(293K)/(.700 L) • P = 4.9898 atm • This was our theoretical prediction of the pressure in the bottle using 12 mL of HCl.

  3. Car Design Initial Car Design: Did not move. Base for Final Car Design “The Boss” Second Car Design: Too heavy. Before the Race

  4. Testing Results: Data and Plots

  5. Conclusions • Our car went to finals with a distance of 29 inches away from the goal of 25 feet. • In finals we finished with a distance of 2 inches away from 25 feet. • If we were to redesign our car, we would make our car more stable by creating a stronger support for the bottle and use bigger wheels. • We would also make a more durable to withstand pressure and crashes. • Our car was extremely inconsistent during the competition and we expect that making these changes would increase consistency.
