  1. New year‘s day in czech republic

  2. FireworksandSending wishes • ON NEW YEAR EVE AT MIDNIGHTSTART FIREWORKS START IN EACH CITY AND VILLAGE IN OUR COUNTRY. PEOPLE START TO CELEBRATE AND THEY SEND WISHES (PF = POUR FÉLICITER) TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS. • CZECH NOBLEMAN KAREL CHOTEK INVENTED THE WISHES IN 1827.

  3. Superstitions • TAKE NEW CLOTHES AND ALL NEXT YEAR WILL BE NEW. • WE BAKE A CHRISTMAS CAKE. IN CHRISTMAS CAKE THERE IS A PEA. AND THAT WHO FINDS THE PEA IN HIS PIECE, HE OR SHE IS A CHILD OF LUCK. • WHEN WE HAVE A LOT OF MONEY THIS DAY, WE WILL HAVE MONEY ALL YEAR. • A AUSPICE IS, WHEN A LITTLE CHILD OR A YOUNG GIRL COMES TO OUR HOME. IF AN OLD WOMAN COMES TO OUR HOME IT ISN‘T GOOD.

  4. Lunch on New Year‘s day • WHEN WE EAT LENTILS, IT MEANS THAT WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF MONEY, THEREFORE WE USUALLY EAT A SOUP OF LENTILS. • WE CAN‘T EAT A POULTRY WITH WINGS, BECAUSE THE LUCK COULD FLY AWAY. WE SHOULD EAT A PORK SCHNITZEL (BECAUSE A SMALL PIG IS THE SYMBOL OF HAPPINESS).
